Choosing your swimming pool poster

Which swimming pool poster should you choose?

The pool subject covers very different registers, between cinema, art and architecture:

  • La Piscine film poster: Alain Delon and Romy Schneider, 1969 Riviera aesthetic, a classic of French cinema.
  • Pool poster signed Laurent Durieux: graphic reinterpretation of that same film, flat bold colours and a stylised crop.
  • Pool poster in the style of David Hockney: a Californian pool, vivid blue, waterline and diving board.
  • Pool from above: geometric mosaic, architectural photography, turquoise dominant.
  • Vintage French Riviera pool: poolside, deckchairs, old advertising typography.
  • Minimalist pool: clean waterline, a flat block of colour, a contemporary graphic register.

Where should you hang a swimming pool poster?

  • Living room: a large size above the sofa, for the film or Hockney version.
  • Bathroom: the subject that pairs most naturally with the pool and the water.
  • Bedroom: a calm blue, more the minimalist or Hockney version than a busy film still.
  • Office: the La Piscine film poster, sober and graphic, beside the screen.

Cinema pool poster or art pool poster?

  • The cinema register, Delon, Schneider, Durieux, carries a story dated to the 1960s: it owns a nostalgic use.
  • The art register, Hockney and his flats of blue, stays timeless, with no fixed reference to a particular era.
  • Architectural photography suits a contemporary, uncluttered interior.
  • On a wall that must tell a precise story, cinema wins out. On a wall that mainly needs to carry a colour and a mood, art or minimalism is enough.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on fine art paper, not on canvas or metal.

  • With frame: black, white, oak or walnut, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
