Choosing the right poster

In an office, the poster is seen from a metre and a half away, for hours at a time. That constraint decides everything: a figurative subject eventually grows tiresome because you have read it in full, while an abstract composition keeps giving you something to look at without ever demanding attention.

The short distance also changes the format. The 30x40 is more than enough above a desk, the 50x70 if the wall is bare and you want it to make an impact in the room. The 70x100 is almost always too big here: you never see the whole thing from the chair.

This range also works as a backdrop for video calls, where a single calm poster behind your shoulder looks better than a bookshelf. A neutral palette stays legible even compressed by the camera, whereas a very colourful image turns muddy.
