Posters art nouveau

Flowing plants, flowers and portraits shape our Art Nouveau posters, inspired by the decorative spirit of 1900. Choose a design for your living room, hallway or bedroom, then its size and frame. Each poster is printed to order in Fayence, France, on 270 gsm semi-matte photo paper.

Choosing your Art nouveau poster

Which Art Nouveau poster should you choose?

The style is recognised first by a few clearly identified registers:

  • Mucha poster: haloed female figures, ornamental hair, floral decoration framing the portrait.
  • Art Nouveau advertising poster: advertisements for shows, cigarettes or biscuits, with lettering built into the drawing.
  • Decorative panels: allegorical series such as the seasons, the flowers or the arts, made to hang together.
  • Stage portraits: actresses and dancers in the Sarah Bernhardt vein, theatrical pose and worked costume.
  • Plant motifs and curves: whiplash lines, interlacing, a naturalist inspiration without a human figure.
  • Mucha poster for chocolate or a drink: advertising compositions that became classics of the genre.

The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.

Where should you hang an Art Nouveau poster?

  • Living room: a large Mucha panel, alone, on the most visible wall.
  • Entrance: an advertising poster, vertical, to set the tone from the door.
  • Bedroom: a portrait of a female figure in soft shades, never too busy.
  • Dining room: a series of decorative panels, seasons or flowers, aligned.
  • Office or library: a discreet plant motif, alongside a shelf.

Tip: the golds and ochres of the style come out better on a pale wall than on a dark one.

A single poster or a series of panels?

  • The single poster, in a large size, works as the centrepiece of a wall.
  • The series of panels is conceived as a set: three or four linked subjects, same artist, same size.
  • For a series, prefer 21x30 or 30x40 repeated rather than one large size.
  • Each copy is printed on 270 g photo paper with a semi-matte finish, from 21x30 up to the 100x140 polyptych.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.

  • With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
