Ghent as seen by our artists: the stepped gables along the Lys, St Bavo's Cathedral and the quays of the Graslei. Each poster is a personal reading of travel, hand-printed on 270 gsm semi-matte photo paper in our workshop in Fayence.
Choosing your Ghent poster
Which Ghent poster should you choose?
- Vintage Ghent poster: old advertisement, dated typography, sepia or pastel palette.
- The Graslei and the Korenlei: listed facades along the Lys, seen from quay to quay.
- The belfry and Saint Bavo's Cathedral: vertical lines, a Gothic silhouette against a clear sky.
- The Gravensteen (Castle of the Counts): grey stone, towers and moat, a medieval register.
- Ghent map poster: a plan of the historic centre and its canals, in the style of an old map.
- Minimalist Ghent poster: flat colours and simplified shapes, read at a glance from a distance.
The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by size.
Where should you hang a Ghent poster?
- Living room: a large-format view of the Graslei, alone above the sofa.
- Office: the map of the city, understated, next to the screen.
- Entrance: the belfry or the cathedral, to announce a journey from the doorway.
- Bedroom: a minimalist version in soft tones, more restful than a busy view.
- Hallway: a series of facades from the historic centre, all in the same size.
A single Ghent poster or a polyptych?
A quay like the Graslei lends itself well to a panoramic format, where the 100x140 polyptych renders the alignment of the facades across its full width. A single monument, such as the belfry or the Gravensteen, on the other hand gains from staying on one vertical print, in 30x40 or 50x70 depending on the wall. For an entrance or a narrow hallway, a single vertical poster remains the simplest choice to fit in.
Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?
All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, not on canvas or metal.
- With frame: black, white, oak or walnut, assembled and ready to hang.
- Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
