Posters illustration

Illustration as seen by our artists: line drawings, gouache, old plates and composed scenes. An illustration poster tells you something a photograph does not show. Every print is made to order in our Grasse workshop, on 220 gsm satin anti-glare art paper.

Choosing your illustration poster

Which illustration poster should you choose?

Drawing covers very different registers, and the line decides everything:

  • Line drawing: one continuous line, a face, a body, a leaf.
  • Gouache and flat colour: bold colours, simple shapes, few details.
  • Botanical plate: herbaria, foliage, fruit, in the old manner.
  • Children's illustration: animals, alphabets, gentle scenes.
  • Architectural drawing poster: facades, roofs, city plans.
  • Watercolour and wash: texture, transparency, soft edges.

The filters on the left narrow by dominant colour, style and mood.

Where to hang a drawing poster?

  • Living room: one illustration in a large format, alone above the sofa.
  • Child's room: an alphabet or an animal scene.
  • Office: a line drawing, restful next to a screen.
  • Kitchen: a plate of fruit or culinary herbs.
  • Corridor: four drawings by the same artist, in the same format.

Tip: an illustration takes small formats better than a photograph. The line stays readable at 21x30.

Illustration or photography?

  • Illustration chooses what it shows: it simplifies, it emphasises, it invents a colour.
  • Photography records: it keeps the light and the detail of one moment.
  • On a busy wall the drawing holds better: less information, more shape.
  • On a bare wall both work, and the format decides.

Poster, print or wall picture: what is the difference?

Here the three words mean the same thing: an image you hang on the wall. We say print because we print on art paper, not on canvas or metal.

  • Framed: black, white, oak or walnut, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Unframed: the sheet alone, to slide into a frame you already own.
