Choosing your 30x40 poster

Which 30x40 poster should you choose?

The 30x40 size fits almost every register, and the choice comes down first to mood:

  • Black and white 30x40 poster: clean contrast, works with every interior.
  • Colour 30x40 poster: bright or pastel palette, for a wall that lacks life.
  • Typographic 30x40 poster: a quote or a single word, read at a glance from the door.
  • Photographic 30x40 poster: landscape, architecture or nature, a crisp result at this size.
  • Graphic 30x40 poster: flat colours and simple shapes, a silhouette read from afar.

The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.

Where should you hang a 30x40 poster?

  • Hallway: several 30x40 posters aligned, the size that structures a corridor.
  • Office: a plain 30x40 poster, at eye level near the screen.
  • Bedroom: a 30x40 poster above the bedside table.
  • Entrance: a size that frames without overwhelming a narrow wall.
  • Kitchen: a 30x40 poster between two units, on a free stretch of wall.

Tip: alone on a large wall, a 30x40 poster looks small. It finds its place in a series or paired with a 50x70.

30x40 or 40x30: which orientation should you choose?

The same size hangs either way, and the subject decides: a portrait or a vertical typography wants the 30x40, a landscape or a wide scene wants the 40x30. On a narrow wall, the vertical version slides in better between two openings. Above a low, long piece of furniture, the horizontal version follows the line of the furniture. The choice is made before printing, the orientation cannot be changed once the frame is up.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on fine art paper, not on canvas or metal.

  • With frame: black, white, oak or walnut, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
