Choosing your Africa poster

Which Africa poster should you choose?

Africa comes in several registers, and they do not tell the same story:

  • South Africa poster: savannah, the Cape, Table Mountain, local wildlife.
  • Africa animals poster: lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras in open savannah.
  • Africa map poster: the outline of the continent, the countries, minimalist tracings.
  • Vintage Africa poster: colonial advertising, old safaris, dated lettering.
  • African motifs and art: masks, wax fabrics, repeated graphic patterns.
  • Landscapes of the continent: desert, baobabs, savannah at sunset.

The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.

Where should you hang an Africa poster?

  • Living room: a map of Africa or a savannah landscape in a large size.
  • Bedroom: an Africa animals poster, in soft tones.
  • Office: a vintage Africa poster, restrained beside the screen.
  • Hallway: a series of three African motifs in the same size.
  • Dining room: a wildlife scene, to open up the room.

Tip: the ochres and browns of the savannah come out better on a pale wall, which lets the contrasts breathe.

Africa poster: map or wildlife photograph?

  • The map of Africa fixes the continent in its outlines: it suits an office, a library, a place of work.
  • The wildlife poster captures a moment, a savannah light: it carries better in a bedroom or a living room.
  • In XXL (70x100 or the 100x140 polyptych) the map gains legibility and the wildlife gains presence.
  • At 21x30 or 30x40, prefer a simple motif: a single animal, an outline of the continent, rather than a busy scene.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.

  • With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
