Which Copenhagen poster should you choose?
Copenhagen comes in several registers, and they do not tell the same city:
- Nyhavn poster: the coloured houses lined along the quay, reds, yellows and ochres.
- Bicycle in Copenhagen poster: the city's everyday scene, a bike against a wall or a quay.
- Copenhagen harbour poster: sailing boats, cranes, warehouses, layered planes of water and wood.
- Copenhagen map or city plan poster: the canals, the islands, the districts traced in line.
- Nordic design Copenhagen poster: plain flat areas, few shapes, a short palette.
- Denmark and Copenhagen poster: coast, lighthouses, a North Sea palette.
The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.
Where should you hang a Copenhagen poster?
- Living room: the Nyhavn facades in a large size, alone above the sofa.
- Office: a plain Nordic composition, which does not compete with the screen.
- Entrance: a map of Copenhagen, to place the city from the door.
- Kitchen: the coloured row wakes a pale wall without loading it.
- Hallway: a series of three Nordic capitals, same size and same frame.
Tip: a row of facades is horizontal and very colourful. It asks for a neutral wall and available width, or the colours crowd and fight.
Copenhagen poster: colourful or minimalist?
- The colourful register holds Nyhavn: reds, yellows, reflections in the water, immediate cheer.
- The minimalist register holds Danish design: two or three shapes, a short palette.
- On a bare, pale wall, colour carries alone and sets the room's temperature.
- In an already busy interior, minimalism fits where colour would add noise.
Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?
All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on fine art paper, not on canvas or metal.
- With frame: black, white, oak or walnut, assembled and ready to hang.
- Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
