Choosing your teen girl's bedroom poster

Which poster for a teenage girl's bedroom?

Teenage bedroom decor is built around several registers, and they do not tell the same room:

  • Aesthetic poster: soft shades, a luminous filter, a photograph or illustration that sets a mood.
  • Pastel aesthetic poster: powder pink, beige, sage, a palette that stays discreet on the walls.
  • Quotations and typography: a short sentence, a word, to set the tone of a reading corner or a desk.
  • Botany and dried flowers: stems, pampas, pressed flowers, a calm and current register.
  • Pop culture and music: portraits, sleeves, references to an artist or a film.
  • Collage and mood board: several images assembled, a notebook or Pinterest spirit.

The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.

Where should you hang teenage wall decor?

  • Above the bed: an aesthetic poster in a large size, alone or flanked by two smaller ones.
  • Gallery wall: several bedroom posters of different sizes, gathered around a central point.
  • Desk: a quotation or a vertical size, at eye level from the chair.
  • Headboard: a floral or pastel motif, never a contrast that is too marked just before sleep.
  • Dressing table or wardrobe corner: a portrait or a fashion plate, in 21x30 or 30x40.

Framed or unframed?

  • Unframed, with adhesive pads or washi tape: easy to reposition, suited to a room that changes often.
  • With a thin frame, in pale wood or black: a more settled result, for a poster meant to stay in place.
  • The 21x30 moves and gets replaced without a second thought; the 50x70 asks for a wall chosen in advance.
  • Three 21x30 in a line make a gallery wall without needing a single large size.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.

  • With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
