Choosing your grey poster

Which grey poster should you choose?

Grey is not a colour, it is a whole family, and each shade changes the mood:

  • Minimalist grey poster: pared-back shapes, plenty of empty space, a single line of force.
  • Photographic shades of grey: architecture, misty landscape, softened black and white.
  • Grey and graphic line: typography, geometric motifs, muted contrasts.
  • Grey registration document poster: a stylised reproduction of an official paper, a wink for a driver's gift.
  • Grey with a touch of colour: a grey flat that lets a single accent breathe.
  • Grey abstraction: gradations, textures, free shapes with no identifiable subject.

The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.

Where should you hang a grey poster?

  • Living room: a large minimalist grey, which structures without dominating.
  • Bedroom: a soft abstraction, for a wall that invites calm.
  • Office: a registration document or graphic poster, plain beside the screen.
  • Entrance: an architectural black and white, which sets the tone from the threshold.
  • Hallway: a series of greys, from the palest to the deepest.

Tip: grey changes with the light. A grey that looks neutral in a shop can turn blue or warm once hung; try it at the hour when you are most often in the room.

Light grey or dark grey?

  • A light grey visually enlarges a small room and goes with almost any wall.
  • A dark grey brings character and works better in a large size, on a wall that is already bright.
  • On a white wall both hold well; on a coloured wall, prefer the grey closest to the dominant shade.
  • The frame follows the same logic: a pale frame softens a dark grey, a dark frame gives structure to a light grey.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.

  • With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
