Posters landscape format
Posters wider than they are tall, for a wall that stretches: above a sofa, a headboard or a console. Where a vertical poster leaves a gap on each side, a horizontal one fills the width.
Tableau horizontal, affiche paysage : quel mur, quelle largeur
Which landscape format poster should you choose?
The landscape format changes the nature of the image: a horizontal picture reads differently from a portrait, and some subjects truly only exist in this orientation.
- Vintage landscape format poster: old advertisement, map or plan, period lettering stretched in width.
- Landscape horizontal nature poster: mountain range, coastline, field or forest, the horizon fills the whole line.
- Landscape format film poster: image drawn from a wide scene, cinema framing.
- Black and white landscape format poster: architecture, city or group portrait, contrast without colour.
- Large abstract landscape format poster: shapes and flat colour that stretch the eye from one wall to the other.
- 50x70 or 70x100 landscape format poster: the two most requested sizes for this hanging orientation.
The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by subject.
Where should you hang a landscape format poster?
- Living room: above the sofa, this orientation follows the line of the furniture.
- Bedroom: above the headboard, a wide size that does not overhang the bed frame.
- Dining room: facing the table, a landscape or an elongated still life.
- Hallway: a series of several landscape posters aligned at the same height.
- Office: a city map or a map, understated above the desk.
Tip: a wide, low wall fills better with a landscape format than with several portraits.
Large format landscape poster or standard poster?
A large format landscape poster covers an entire wall and carries the whole room on its own, with nothing beside it. A landscape poster in 21x30 or 30x40 fits better into a composition with other frames, portrait and landscape mixed together. The choice depends on the width of wall available: a wall over two metres calls for a single large format, a narrower wall lends itself better to an arrangement of smaller pieces.
Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?
All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, not on canvas or metal.
- With frame: black, white, oak or walnut, assembled and ready to hang.
- Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
