Choosing your music poster

Which music poster should you choose?

Here music is a climate, not a record sleeve:

  • Jazz nights: clubs, harbours, terraces, low light.
  • Instruments: saxophone, trumpet, double bass, piano.
  • Concert scenes: a crowd, spotlights, silhouettes.
  • Black and white: the plainest form of the genre.
  • Line illustration: a musician in a single stroke.
  • Street mood: brass bands, markets, late gatherings.

Where to hang a music poster?

  • Living room: a concert scene in a large format, on a dark wall.
  • Teenager's room: an instrument in black and white, bold and graphic.
  • Office: a simple line that does not eat your attention.
  • Bar or dining corner: a jazz night is exactly right here.
  • Corridor: three instruments in a row, same format.

Tip: music posters are often dark. They need a pale wall or a pale frame to breathe.

Which wall for a music poster?

  • White or cream wall: the clearest contrast for a dark print.
  • Midnight blue wall: tone on tone, a club mood.
  • Terracotta wall: warm, it lifts a black and white print.
  • Black wall: only with a pale frame, or the poster disappears.

Poster, print or wall picture: what is the difference?

Here the three words mean the same thing: an image you hang on the wall. We say print because we print on art paper, not on canvas or metal.

  • Framed: black, white, oak or walnut, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Unframed: the sheet alone, to slide into a frame you already own.
