Choosing your architecture poster

Which architecture poster should you choose?

Architecture comes in several registers, and they do not tell the same story:

  • Design architecture poster: pared-back lines, concrete, glass, contemporary facades.
  • Bauhaus architecture poster: geometry, flat colour, functional lettering.
  • Vintage architecture poster: period advertisements, high-rises, palaces and old railway stations.
  • Architectural drawing poster: plans, sections, elevations drawn in line.
  • Historic architecture poster: monuments, classical facades, stone and ornament.
  • Modern architecture poster: minimalist structures, black and white, plays of shadow.

The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.

Where should you hang an architecture poster?

  • Office: a design architecture poster, plain, at eye level.
  • Living room: a large Bauhaus or modern piece, above the sofa.
  • Entrance: a vintage architecture poster, to set the tone from the threshold.
  • Hallway: a series of architectural drawings, same line, same size.
  • Bedroom: a historic facade in soft tones, away from over-marked contrasts.

Architecture poster in colour or black and white?

  • Black and white strengthens lines and volumes: it suits modern buildings and plans.
  • Colour restores an era or a mood: useful for vintage and Bauhaus.
  • On a wall already loaded with furniture and materials, black and white settles things.
  • On a bare, pale wall, an architecture poster in colour becomes the anchor of the room.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, not on canvas or metal.

  • With frame: black, white, oak or walnut, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
