Choosing your black poster

Which black poster should you choose?

  • Graphic black wall decor poster: geometric shapes or line art, light background, clean line.
  • Black and white poster: photography or illustration in monochrome, the most versatile register.
  • Black and gold poster: gilded patterns on a black background, a dressier effect.
  • Black and wood poster: a dark composition designed for a wall or a raw wood frame.
  • Black metal wall decor poster: shapes recalling wrought iron or blackened steel, workshop spirit.
  • Black and beige or black and grey poster: softened contrast for a gentler bedroom.

Where should you hang a black poster?

  • Living room: a black and gold or black and wood poster, above the sofa for a bold wall.
  • Bedroom: a black and white poster above the bed, in a room already white or beige.
  • Teen bedroom: a more graphic black and white pattern, often in a series.
  • Kitchen: a simple black composition, near the table or a light worktop.
  • Entrance or hallway: a black metal poster, for a striking first wall right at the threshold.

Tip: an already dark wall absorbs a black poster; keep it for a light wall so it stands out.

Black poster or a wall painted black?

Painting a wall black commits the whole room and is hard to change. A black poster gives the same contrast on a single surface, without repainting, and can be changed as you please. On an already dark wall, prefer a thin frame rather than a deep black, so the poster still stands out. On a light wall, it plays the role of a strong accent on its own.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.

  • With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
