Posters nancy

Nancy as seen by our artists: Place Stanislas, the gilded ironwork and the line of the roofs. Each poster is a personal reading of travel, hand-printed on 220 gsm art paper with an anti-glare satin finish in our workshop in Grasse.

Bien choisir votre affiche Nancy

Which Nancy poster should you choose?

Nancy comes in several registers, and they do not tell the same city:

  • Place Stanislas poster: the gilded railings, the Héré arch, the eighteenth-century facades.
  • Art Nouveau poster: the École de Nancy, plant lines, glasswork, ironwork.
  • Nancy map or city plan poster: the old town, the new town, the districts in line.
  • Minimalist Nancy poster: the city reduced to a few lines, pale ground, a short palette.
  • Porte de la Craffe poster: the medieval towers, grey stone, a frank silhouette.
  • Black and white Nancy poster: stone, ironwork, contrasts without colour.

The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.

Where should you hang a Nancy poster?

  • Living room: Place Stanislas in a large size, alone above the sofa.
  • Office: a minimalist composition, which does not compete with the screen.
  • Dining room: an Art Nouveau motif, plant-like and supple, beside the table.
  • Entrance: a map of Nancy, to place the city from the door.
  • Hallway: a series of three eastern French cities, same size and same frame.

Tip: the gold of the railings only shows on a plain ground. On a yellow or gilded wall it goes out; on a grey, blue or white wall it becomes an accent again.

Nancy poster: classical or Art Nouveau?

  • The classical register holds the eighteenth century: symmetry, pale stone, railings, order.
  • Art Nouveau holds the curve: stem, flower, glass, a line that never repeats.
  • On a wall with mouldings, the classical agrees without effort.
  • In a softer room, Art Nouveau brings movement without becoming a literal plant motif.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on fine art paper, not on canvas or metal.

  • With frame: black, white, oak or walnut, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
