Choosing your poster among the decor trends

Which on-trend poster should you choose?

Wall decoration follows its own fashions, and they do not look alike:

  • Kakemono poster: a long vertical size, to hang loose, Japanese-inspired or minimal.
  • Vintage decor poster: patinated colours, dated lettering, period advertisements and travel.
  • Design poster: geometric shapes, bold flat colour, an openly graphic composition.
  • Pastel or terracotta palette: soft or warm tones, much sought after right now.
  • Typography and quotations: one word, one short sentence, a wall that speaks.
  • Contemporary abstract: free shapes, no recognisable subject, made for the mood rather than the motif.

Where should you hang an on-trend poster?

  • Living room: a graphic design or a quotation, in a large size, the focal point of the wall.
  • Bedroom: a pastel palette, soothing, never too contrasted near the bed.
  • Entrance: a kakemono, whose vertical shape follows narrow corridors.
  • Office: an abstract composition, discreet beside the screen.
  • Dining room: a vintage poster, for a wall with character.

Tip: a trend goes out of fashion faster than a classic. Keep it for a wall that is easy to change, not for the main room.

Follow a trend or choose something timeless?

  • A trend captures its moment: it makes a mark, and it also dates, faster than a classic drawing.
  • Something timeless crosses the years without ever looking dated on the wall.
  • A living room redone every two or three years can follow a trend at no risk.
  • An entrance or a hallway, redecorated less often, gain from a choice that lasts.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.

  • With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
