Choosing your butterfly poster
Which butterfly poster should you choose?
The butterfly comes in several styles, and they don't tell the same story:
- Vintage butterfly poster: entomological plate, antique engraving, aged paper and a Latin caption.
- Macro butterfly poster: close-up on the wings, symmetry and detail, saturated colours.
- Graphic butterfly poster: clean silhouette, flat colours, minimalist spirit.
- Butterfly and flowers: botanical style, pastel tones, a spring scene.
- Film poster with a butterfly: the central motif of a cinema poster, a dreamlike or melancholic mood.
- Black and white butterfly poster: fine line, sharp contrast, works with any palette.
The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.
Where should you hang a butterfly poster?
- Bedroom: a pastel butterfly or a vintage plate, above the bed or the desk.
- Living room: a graphic design in a large print, alone above the sofa.
- Entrance: a series of small butterflies, for a collector's effect from the doorway.
- Bathroom: a watercolour or pastel butterfly, in a room that is already light.
- Office: a black and white entomological plate, understated next to the screen.
One butterfly poster or a collection?
A single poster, in a large format, makes the butterfly the main subject of the wall: it suits a living room or a bedroom that only needs one focal point. Several small formats, arranged in a staggered pattern, recreate the spirit of a naturalist's plate and work better in a hallway or a stairwell. The choice mostly depends on the wall space available and the number of subjects you want to bring together.
Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?
All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, not on canvas or metal.
- With frame: black, white, oak or walnut, assembled and ready to hang.
- Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
