Posters Caribbean

The Antilles as seen by our artists: bays, markets, volcano and Creole light. Each poster is a personal reading of travel, hand-printed on 270 gsm photo paper with a semi-matte finish in our workshop in Fayence.

Choosing your Caribbean poster

Which Caribbean poster should you choose?

The Caribbean comes in several clearly distinct registers:

  • Vintage Caribbean poster: cruise advertisements, stylised palm trees, period lettering.
  • Air France Caribbean poster: aviation advertising reproductions, retro tones, historic airlines.
  • Caribbean nature poster: turquoise sea, beaches, tropical vegetation.
  • Ocean liner poster: reworkings of old steamship and shipping line posters.
  • Creole architecture: coloured facades, wooden houses, busy markets.
  • Scenes of local life: fishermen, markets, traditional boats.

The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.

Where should you hang a Caribbean poster?

  • Living room: a vintage Caribbean poster in a large size, alone on a pale wall.
  • Bedroom: a Caribbean poster in soft tones, a beach or a calm horizon.
  • Office: an Air France Caribbean poster, restrained and graphic.
  • Kitchen: a market scene or tropical fruit.
  • Entrance or hallway: a series of three identical sizes, like a travel notebook.

Tip: turquoise blues come out better on a white or sand wall than on a dark one.

Vintage poster or contemporary print?

  • The vintage Caribbean poster takes up the old advertising codes: worked lettering, frank colour, a wide frame.
  • The contemporary print favours photography or pared-back illustration, closer to a travel memory.
  • On a wall already crowded with objects, the vintage poster holds better thanks to its clean framing.
  • The 50x70 suits a living space, the 30x40 a tighter one such as an entrance.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.

  • With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
