Choosing the right village poster

Which village poster to choose?

The village theme comes in several styles, each with its own atmosphere:

  • Vintage village poster: tourist advertisement, old postcard, retro typography.
  • Village square: fountain, church or café terrace at the heart of the town.
  • Streets and alleys: cobblestones, steps, laundry at the windows, narrow perspective.
  • Stone houses and colourful facades: mountain or southern village, tiled roofs.
  • Seaside village: fishing port, sloping streets, whitewashed facades.
  • Flower-filled village: geraniums at the windows, flower-lined streets, Provençal mood.

Where to hang a village poster?

  • Living room: a horizontal format of a street or square, above the sofa.
  • Entrance: a village square or a cobbled street, to set the tone from the doorway.
  • Kitchen: a village market or colourful facades, near the table.
  • Bedroom: a mountain or seaside village, in soft tones.
  • Hallway: a series of streets in the same format, to give rhythm to the passage.

Tip: a stone or cream tone suits a street better than pure white.

Village poster in colour or black and white?

A vertical format suits a narrow street, a horizontal format an open square. Colour restores the painted facades and coloured shutters of a southern village. Black and white emphasises the cobblestones, cast shadows and grain of the stone. On a wall already rich in colour, black and white calms the composition. On a neutral wall, colour carries more of the town's atmosphere.

Poster, print or artwork: what's the difference?

The three words describe the same thing here: a printed image you hang on the wall. We call it a poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.

  • Unframed: the sheet alone, to slide into a frame you already have.
