Choosing your Lille poster

Which Lille poster should you choose?

Lille comes in several registers, and each tells a different side of the city:

  • Vintage Lille poster: old advertising, retro lettering, faded tones.
  • Old Lille poster: Flemish facades, cobbles, the alleys of the historic centre.
  • Lille my city poster: a stylised plan, landmark monuments, a postcard spirit.
  • Lille pride poster: a tribute to the fervour of the LOSC and to the city's popular identity.
  • City of Lille poster: the Grand-Place, the belfry, an urban silhouette in flat colour.
  • Lille by a signature hand: a contemporary and minimalist line, in a recognisable style.

The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.

Where should you hang a Lille poster?

  • Living room: a view of Old Lille or the Grand-Place, in a large size.
  • Entrance: a Lille my city poster, to set the tone from the door.
  • Office: a stylised plan or a vintage poster, restrained beside the screen.
  • Bedroom: a soft shade of old Lille, away from colours that are too vivid.
  • Hallway: a series of three posters, same artist, same size.

Antique or contemporary Lille poster?

  • The vintage poster quotes a Lille of the past: advertising, sepia, period lettering.
  • The contemporary poster draws today's city: frank flat colour, a pared-back line.
  • On an old wall or with mouldings, vintage extends the decor.
  • On a bare, present-day wall, the contemporary line stands out better.

The 270 g photo paper with its semi-matte finish suits both registers. Count on 30x40 for an architectural detail, 50x70 for a wide view, and the 100x140 polyptych for a panorama of the belfry in several panels.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.

  • With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
