Choosing your poster of men

Which poster on the theme of man should you choose?

The subject covers very different registers, and they do not speak to the same wall:

  • Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen: the founding text, in calligraphy or as an old facsimile.
  • Vitruvian Man: Leonardo da Vinci's figure, proportions and circle, in black and white.
  • Man and woman poster: a couple, a duo, a scene for two, for a wall that tells of a relationship.
  • Antique male portrait: black and white, grain, a tight frame.
  • Men's fashion poster: silhouette, wardrobe, the spirit of a couture house.
  • Male nude: body, line, life study, for a wall that owns it.

The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.

Where should you hang one?

  • Office: the Declaration of the Rights of Man or the Vitruvian Man, subjects that settle a working room.
  • Living room: an antique black and white portrait, above the sofa.
  • Bedroom: a man and woman poster, for a wall shared by two.
  • Dressing room: a men's fashion poster, near the mirror.
  • Entrance: a vertical size, welcoming without taking over.

Tip: subjects carrying text, such as the Declaration of the Rights of Man, stay legible even in a small size.

Black and white or colour?

  • Black and white suits antique portraits and the Vitruvian Man: it gives a restrained, timeless tone.
  • Colour suits fashion and scenes for two: it warms a neutral wall.
  • On a wall already full of colour, prefer black and white, easier to fit in.
  • The 270 g photo paper with its semi-matte finish renders the detail of an old text as well as the contrast of a portrait.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.

  • With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
