Choosing your monkey poster

Which monkey poster should you choose?

  • Chimpanzee portrait: the gaze, the expression, a detailed coat, in black and white or in colour.
  • The three wise monkeys: the figures covering their eyes, their ears, their mouth.
  • Monkey on the toilet: the seated scene, a humorous twist much in demand.
  • Smoking monkey: a cigar or a cigarette, a knowing and slightly offbeat tone.
  • Pop art monkey: saturated colours, flat shapes, strong contrast, sometimes a helmet or glasses.
  • Black and white gorilla: an imposing size, a frontal gaze, graver than the chimpanzee.

The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.

Where should you hang a monkey poster?

  • Toilet: the register where the humorous monkey falls most naturally.
  • Living room: a chimpanzee portrait in a large size, alone on a clear wall.
  • Office: the three wise monkeys, for their calmer tone.
  • Teenager's room: the pop art or the helmeted monkey, in frank colour.
  • Hallway: a series of two or three portraits in the same style, aligned.

Tip: on a pale wall, black and white keeps all its contrast. On a dark wall, pop art stands out better.

Portrait or pop art?

  • The black and white portrait bets on expression: a gaze, the texture of the coat, an almost photographic rendering.
  • Pop art simplifies and colours: frank flat shapes, clean outlines, a more graphic effect.
  • A restrained room welcomes the portrait better; a room already coloured absorbs pop art better.
  • The 50x70 suits the portrait, which needs detail; the 30x40 is enough for a more frontal pop art.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.

  • With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
