Art as seen by our artists: styles, movements and old masters reread their own way. An art poster gives a wall a frame without telling a place or a subject. Every print is made to order in our Fayence workshop, on 270 g semi-matte anti-glare photo paper.

Choosing your art poster

Which art poster should you choose?

The word art covers very different registers, each with its own mood:

  • Reproduction of a painting: the great masters, museum painting, transposed onto a poster.
  • Abstract art: shapes, colours, flat areas, with no recognisable subject.
  • Bauhaus poster: strict geometry, a reduced palette, functional lettering.
  • Art deco poster: symmetry, repeated motifs, the gilded lines of the 1920s.
  • William Morris poster: dense floral motifs, inherited from wallpaper and art nouveau.
  • Vintage exhibition poster: museum or gallery posters, period lettering.

The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.

Where should you hang an art poster?

  • Living room: a wall poster in a large size, above the sofa.
  • Dining room: a reproduction of a painting, for a classic mood.
  • Bedroom: a soft palette, in a vertical size, away from busy motifs.
  • Office: an abstract or geometric piece, restful beside the screen.
  • Entrance or hallway: a series of exhibition posters, to set the tone.

Tip: on a wall already loaded with colour, a black and white poster holds better than a colourful one.

Colour poster or black and white?

  • The colour poster brings energy to a neutral or white wall.
  • Black and white goes with everything: it never clashes with what surrounds it.
  • A pale wood poster frame suits both; a thin metal frame accentuates black and white.
  • For a large wall poster, black and white avoids the overloaded effect a large colour piece can give.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.

  • With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
