Choosing your city poster

Which city poster should you choose?

The city comes in several clearly distinct registers, and each tells the place differently:

  • Skyline and urban landscape: New York, Los Angeles, a skyline recognisable among a thousand.
  • City plan and map: streets, districts, a precise place read on the wall, and it can be your own city.
  • Bauhaus and graphic poster: pared-back shapes, flat colour, architecture reduced to its lines.
  • Old and retro poster: black and white, period grain, New York or Paris as they are no longer photographed.
  • Cities of the world: a series of capitals or destinations, made to go together.
  • Coastal villages: Saint-Tropez, Saint-Malo, Bormes-les-Mimosas, Sainte-Maxime, lanes and seafront facades.

The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.

Where should you hang a city poster?

  • Office: a city plan or map, to anchor a precise place beside the screen.
  • Living room: a large skyline in black and white, above the sofa.
  • Entrance: a personalised city, the one you live in or the one you remember.
  • Hallway: a series of three cities of the world, same size, same palette.
  • Bedroom: a coastal village, gentler than an urban skyline.

City map or skyline?

  • The map shows a precise place: a district, a street, a point that you alone recognise.
  • The skyline shows an outline that everyone identifies, with no need to read a name.
  • The map lends itself to personalisation, with a city and sometimes coordinates.
  • The skyline holds better in black and white, the map prefers colour or a single ink.

Size tip: 50x70 lets a horizontal skyline breathe, 30x40 suits a map centred on one district better. The paper is 270 g photo paper with a semi-matte finish, in the sizes 21x30, 30x40, 50x70, 70x100, and the 100x140 polyptych for a series of world cities across several panels.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.

  • With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
