Which Geneva poster should you choose?

Geneva comes in several registers, and they do not tell the same city:

• Jet d'Eau poster: the white column on Lake Geneva, the city's most recognisable silhouette.
• Lake Geneva and Alps poster: the water, the sails, the mountains behind, a blue and pink palette.
• Geneva old town poster: Saint-Pierre cathedral, lanes, the roofs of the hill.
• Geneva map or city plan poster: the lake, the Rhône, the districts traced in line.
• Geneva watchmaking poster: movements, dials, a spirit of precision.
• Black and white Geneva poster: water, stone, sky, contrasts without colour.

Where should you hang a Geneva poster?

• Living room: the lake and the Alps in a large size, alone above the sofa.
• Office: a watch movement or a map, precise and calm beside the screen.
• Bedroom: a pale blue and pink palette, settled, with no hard contrast.
• Entrance: a map of Geneva, to place the city from the door.
• Hallway: a series of three Swiss cities, same size and same frame.

Tip: the Jet d'Eau is a white vertical on a pale ground. It needs a dark frame or a slightly tinted wall, or it dissolves into the wall.

Geneva poster: lake or city?

• The lake widens: water, sails, mountains, sky, with no identifiable architecture.
• The city tightens: cathedral, quays, facades, a recognisable silhouette.
• In a bedroom, the lake settles the room and takes a large size without tiring.
• In an entrance, the city names the place straight away, which the lake does not.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on fine art paper, not on canvas or metal.

• With frame: black, white, oak or walnut, assembled and ready to hang.
• Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
