Choosing your olive tree poster

Which olive tree poster should you choose?

The olive tree comes in several registers, and they do not tell the same thing:

  • Photographic olive tree poster: a gnarled trunk, bark, the light at the end of the day.
  • Olive tree in the manner of Lapicque: pared-back strokes, flat colour, a stylised silhouette.
  • Olive tree in the manner of Follmi: southern light, backlighting, a warm and mineral palette.
  • Branch and foliage: a close-up on the silvery leaves, a single bough.
  • Grove and landscape: rows of olive trees, hills, a Mediterranean sky.
  • Still life: olives, oil, a basket, a Provençal mood.

The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.

Where should you hang an olive tree poster?

  • Living room: a large photographic size, alone above the sofa.
  • Kitchen: a branch or a still life, near the worktop.
  • Dining room: a grove landscape, to set a southern table.
  • Entrance: a stylised silhouette in the Lapicque manner, plain and immediate.
  • Office: a pared-back olive tree, which does not overload the eye.

Tip: olive and sand tones go better with a pale wall, where the light of the subject stays readable.

Photographic or illustrated olive tree poster?

  • Photography holds the texture of the trunk and the light of one precise moment, in the Follmi spirit.
  • Illustration simplifies the form and lays down a colour, in the Lapicque spirit.
  • On a wall already loaded with objects or furniture, the illustration stands out better.
  • On a bare wall, a large photograph sets the whole Mediterranean mood on its own.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.

  • With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
