Salamanca as seen by our artists: the cathedral at the end of the arcades, the golden sandstone of the façades and the raking light of the squares. Each poster is a personal reading of travel, hand-printed on 270 gsm photo paper with a semi-matte finish in our workshop in Fayence.
Choosing your Salamanca poster
Which Salamanca poster should you choose?
Salamanca comes in several registers, and they do not tell the same city:
- Plaza Mayor poster: the baroque square and its arcades, the golden Villamayor stone.
- University of Salamanca poster: the plateresque facade, its medallions and its frog.
- Salamanca cathedrals poster: the old and the new, golden tower and dome.
- Salamanca map or city plan poster: the Tormes, the Roman bridge, the streets in line.
- Black and white Salamanca poster: sculpture, shadows, contrasts without colour.
- Castile and Salamanca poster: plateau, wide sky, a wheat and stone palette.
The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.
Where should you hang a Salamanca poster?
- Living room: the Plaza Mayor in a large size, alone above the sofa.
- Office: a plateresque detail, dense and graphic, made to be looked at closely.
- Entrance: a map of Salamanca, to place the city from the door.
- Dining room: a golden stone palette, which agrees with the wood of the table.
- Hallway: a series of three Castilian cities, same size and same frame.
Tip: Salamanca's golden stone turns yellow under a warm lamp. Under a neutral light it finds its exact ochre again.
Salamanca poster: landmark or carved detail?
- The landmark holds the city: square, facade, tower, recognisable at first glance.
- The carved detail keeps the material: medallions, shells, mouldings, at eye level.
- On a large wall, the landmark carries alone and gives the scale.
- At a small size, the detail keeps all its legibility where a wide view closes up.
Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?
All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.
- With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
- Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
