Posters Antwerp
Antwerp as seen by our artists: the cathedral spire, the gabled houses and the river running down to the port. Each poster is a personal reading of travel, hand-printed on 270 gsm photo paper with a semi-matte finish in our workshop in Fayence.
Choosing your Antwerp poster
Which Antwerp poster should you choose?
Antwerp comes in several registers, and they do not tell the same city:
- Line-drawn Antwerp poster: the Cathedral of Our Lady, stepped gables, drawn in a single line.
- Black and white Antwerp poster: the Scheldt quays, harbour cranes, dry contrasts.
- Antwerp map or city plan poster: the river, the docks, the districts traced in line.
- Vintage Antwerp poster: old advertisements, Flemish lettering, cream paper.
- Port of Antwerp poster: containers, cranes, industrial architecture.
- Antwerpen poster in Dutch: the city name in capitals, a typographic approach.
The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.
Where should you hang an Antwerp poster?
- Living room: a view of the port or the Scheldt, alone above the sofa.
- Office: a line drawing, which reads up close without tiring the eye.
- Entrance: a map of Antwerp, to set the tone from the door.
- Hallway: a series of three Flemish cities, same size and same frame.
- Bedroom: a calm view of the river, never a composition that is too busy.
Tip: a brown line on cream goes out on a strong wall. Keep it for a pale wall, or move to a black and white version.
Antwerp poster: line drawing or photograph?
- The line drawing keeps the silhouette of the city and takes small sizes without losing legibility.
- Photography returns the material of the port: steel, water, concrete, low sky.
- On a wall already crowded with furniture, a line drawing settles in more easily than a dense image.
- On a bare, wide wall, a photograph of the port holds on its own and gives depth.
Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?
All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.
- With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
- Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
