Choosing your Mediterranean-style poster

Which Mediterranean poster should you choose?

The Mediterranean rim comes in several registers, and they do not tell the same mood:

  • French Riviera poster: umbrella pines, rocky coves, villas and deep blue.
  • Santorini poster: white houses, blue domes, lanes and the sea below.
  • Mediterranean painting: olive trees, terraces, ochre facades and coloured shutters.
  • Lemon trees and southern orchards: citrus, foliage, warm light.
  • Harbours and fishing villages: boats, pastel facades, washing at the windows.
  • Minimalist Mediterranean poster: flat blue and white, pared-back shapes.

The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.

Where should you hang Mediterranean wall decor?

  • Living room: a large Riviera or fishing village, above the sofa.
  • Kitchen: lemon trees or a market scene, near the table.
  • Bedroom: a Santorini in soft tones, never over-saturated.
  • Entrance: what sets the tone of a holiday house from the door.
  • Office: a minimalist blue and white flat colour, restful beside the screen.

Tip: the whites of Santorini stand out better on a pale wall, which lets the contrast with the blue breathe.

Which size for a Mediterranean poster?

  • 50x70 and 70x100 for a coastal panorama or a whole village.
  • 30x40 for a detail: a blue door, a lemon tree, a lane.
  • Three 21x30 in a line for a series of villages or harbours.
  • The 100x140 polyptych for a sea horizon cut across several panels.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.

  • With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
