How to choose your castle poster

Which castle poster should you choose?

The castle comes in several registers, carried by quite different silhouettes:

  • Medieval castle poster: crenellated towers, central keep, machicolations, a defensive silhouette typical of the Middle Ages.
  • Loire Valley castle poster: Renaissance facade, slate roofs, formal gardens.
  • Ruined castle poster: crumbling stones, an isolated tower amid vegetation, a romantic and melancholic atmosphere.
  • Castle garden poster: geometric flower beds, gravelled paths, open perspective onto the facade.
  • Fortified castle poster: an imposing fortress, thick ramparts, a watchtower overlooking the landscape.
  • Illustrated castle print: fine line, soft palette, stylised silhouette rather than precise photographic rendering.

Where to hang a castle poster?

  • Living room: a large horizontal format, facade or garden, above the sofa.
  • Office: a keep or tower silhouette, understated next to the screen.
  • Bedroom: a ruined castle in soft tones, for a calm atmosphere.
  • Entrance: a fortified castle with strong contrasts, to set the tone from the doorway.
  • Hallway: a series of towers in the same format, aligned.

Tip: a stone or slate tone suits most light-coloured walls.

Vertical or horizontal format for a castle poster?

  • An isolated tower or keep suits a vertical format, which accentuates the height of the building.
  • A facade with a garden reads better in horizontal format, which leaves room for the perspective.
  • On a narrow wall, a tower silhouette works better than a wide view.
  • On a large wall section, a facade with a garden fills the space without looking cramped.
  • For a very wide facade, the 100x140 polyptych format spreads the scene across several panels.

Poster, print or artwork: what is the difference?

All three words describe the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We call it a poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image also exists on a metal plate, in several sizes.

  • With frame: black, white or light oak, mounted and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
