What is a metal poster?
A metal poster is your chosen image printed on a rigid metal plate with a magnetic wall mount. With no frame or glass, the image reaches the edge and the plate can be removed by hand.
It is an object you rarely get to handle before buying it. Here is what it actually feels like, how it looks on a wall and when it suits a room better than paper.
What a plate looks like straight from the press
In our Fayence workshop, the image is transferred onto the plate using a heat press. The glossy finish catches the light in the room: reflections change with the lighting and viewing angle. An area of colour can therefore look different throughout the day. Before choosing a spot, check what the wall reflects, especially opposite a window.
The plate provides a rigid surface. On the wall, it has no frame moulding or glass. This discreet outline gives the image and colours more room. To compare materials, choose the same image: it makes the difference in finish easier to see than comparing two different subjects.
How it hangs without drilling
The mounting system uses a magnetic wall sticker. Stick it to the wall, then place the plate over it. You can remove the image by hand. Before mounting, check that your surface is suitable and follow the supplied instructions: adhesion also depends on the wall, its cleanliness and its condition.
Once the sticker is fixed, the plate can be removed by hand and placed back on the same magnet. This lets you change the image in that spot whenever your preferences change. The plate and the sticker are two separate elements: removing the print does not peel the fixing off the wall.
The plate comes without moulding or glass: there is no frame to choose for this material. The price for the selected size, along with delivery, is shown during checkout.
Metal and paper in different light and humidity
Rigidity is only part of the choice. Metal has a glossy surface; our semi-matte photo paper reduces reflections. In a humid room, location matters as much as material. Avoid direct splashes and choose a dry wall for the mount. A decorative print is not a covering designed for constant contact with water.
In a kitchen or a bathroom, choose a dry spot, away from splashes and direct heat. The glossy finish is not a guarantee of watertightness. In a teenager's bedroom, the magnetic fixing is mainly useful for swapping the image in the same spot as tastes change.
Which images benefit most
Images produce different effects on a glossy surface. Bold areas of colour and strong contrasts are easy to read, while reflections contribute to the finish. For a detailed image, also check its legibility at the chosen size. The product preview lets you compare the crop before ordering.
To explore this look, compare an illustration, a line art drawing, an abstract composition or some blue prints. A photograph with soft shades or a botanical print can also be chosen on metal. The subject does not dictate the material: decide based on the level of shine you want, the light in the room and how well the details read.

Sizes and prices
For current sizes and prices, open a print and select Metal. The product page shows the sizes offered, their availability and the corresponding price once selected. Options may differ from paper. Measure the available space first: a small plate pairs easily with other images, while a group can fill a wider wall. Product links in this article open directly with metal selected.
Small sizes work well in a group. Three 20 × 30 plates in a row, or four 15 × 20 plates arranged in two rows, give rhythm to a section of wall. Mark out the positions and spacing before sticking the fixings: moving the plate does not make the adhesive repositionable. Our guide on the number of frames to choose for a wall (in French) helps you plan a layout, including one without frames.
You can also add a border around the image in a colour from the palette. It is printed on the plate rather than placed in front of it. It plays the role of a mount without adding thickness.
Metal or paper: how to choose
The room and its light matter as much as the subject. The glossy surface of metal produces stronger reflections than semi-matt photo paper. Facing a window or under a spotlight, watch how the light changes at different times of day. A wall lit from the side can make reflections less noticeable. Choose the look you prefer from your usual viewpoint, whether seated or standing.
Our comparison of art paper and photographic paper (in French) explains how paper behaves in different light. The same reasoning applies here, with another material to consider. If you choose paper, the frame moulding depends on the image's dominant colour, as discussed in our article on choosing a frame for a 30 × 40 print (in French).
Prints are made to order in Fayence. Check the delivery date on the product page after choosing your material and size. Use that date to plan your order, especially when buying a gift.
Where to hang it at home
The living room remains the most popular room, and a plate works well alongside a larger paper print: the two materials complement each other rather than repeat each other. In a home office, a 30 × 40 plate can hang at eye level behind or beside the screen. Check that desk lamps do not create distracting reflections. In a bedroom, paper is often preferred for its softer, calmer finish.
Graphic interiors are particularly well suited to it: japandi, minimalism, or orange prints, whose warm blocks of colour gain richness on metal.
