The alphabet as seen by our artists: illustrated letters, animals and flowers hidden in the strokes, for a room that teaches as you look. Each poster is hand-printed on 270 g photo paper with a semi-matte finish in our studio in Fayence.
Choosing your alphabet poster
Which alphabet poster should you choose?
The alphabet comes in several writings, and they do not speak to the same age:
- Animal alphabet poster: one letter, one creature, a drawing recognised at first glance.
- Illustrated alphabet: everyday objects and scenes, one simple word per letter.
- Nursery-school alphabet poster: large characters, vivid colours, easy reading for the youngest.
- Baby alphabet poster: gentle shades, round shapes, made for an infant's room.
- Montessori alphabet poster: script letters, restraint, references to sensory teaching.
- First-name alphabet: the same structure of letters, personalised with a name.
The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.
Where should you hang an alphabet poster?
- Child's room: above the bed or the desk, at a child's eye level.
- Reading corner: an animal alphabet, between the books and the rug.
- Playroom: the vivid colours of a nursery-school alphabet poster.
- Upstairs hallway: a frieze of letters that accompanies the walk to the bedroom.
- School desk or classroom: an illustrated alphabet, a daily reading support.
Tip: the pastel tones of a baby alphabet hold better in a small room than a very colourful ground, which quickly loads a wall already taken up by children's furniture.
Alphabet poster or standard-format poster?
- A standard-format poster follows a size and a frame made to fit furniture already on the shelf.
- Our posters are chosen in 21x30, 30x40, 50x70 or 70x100, and framed according to the wall, not according to a catalogue.
- For a room that grows with the child, a larger size such as the 30x40 leaves space for other pieces beside it, without starting over.
- The 270 g photo paper with its semi-matte finish keeps the colours sharp under a child's room lighting, often more direct than in the living room.
Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?
All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.
- With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
- Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
