Choosing your Lyon poster

Which Lyon poster should you choose?

Lyon comes in several registers, and they do not tell the same city:

  • Vintage Lyon poster: old advertising, retro lettering, sepia or chalk tones.
  • Black and white Lyon poster: the city's silhouettes, marked contrasts, without colour.
  • Lyon map or plan poster: the Rhone, the Saone, districts and bridges drawn in line.
  • Lyon drawing poster: a line illustration of the facades and the roofs of Lyon.
  • City of Lyon in photography: Fourviere, traboules, quays, a wide view or a detail.
  • Antique Lyon poster: the reproduction of a period image, an archive spirit.

The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.

Where should you hang a Lyon poster?

  • Living room: a wide view of Fourviere or of the quays, alone above the sofa.
  • Entrance: a plan of Lyon, to set the tone before you even go into the rooms.
  • Office: a black and white Lyon poster, restrained beside the screen.
  • Hallway: a series of three vintage Lyon posters, in the same size.
  • Bedroom: a calm view of the city, never a poster too full of detail.

Tip: a vintage Lyon poster keeps its sepia tones under warm light. Under cold light, prefer a black and white version.

Lyon poster in colour or in black and white?

  • Black and white sharpens the lines of the city: bridges, roofs, facades.
  • Colour restores an atmosphere: evening light on the Saone, the ochre of the traboules.
  • On a wall already full of furniture or frames, black and white fits in more easily.
  • On a bare wall, colour can carry the room on its own.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.

  • With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
