Choosing your abstract poster

Which abstract poster should you choose?

The abstract covers very different registers, and each sets up a world of its own:

  • Black and white abstract poster: frank contrasts, graphic shapes, no colour to distract the eye.
  • Colourful abstract poster: vivid flat areas, gradations, a touch that wakes a neutral wall.
  • Geometric abstract art poster: straight lines, circles, constructed compositions.
  • Abstract face poster: simplified features, a deconstructed portrait, never figurative.
  • Terracotta abstract poster: ochres and browns, in the vein of today's natural tones.
  • Minimalist abstract poster: few shapes, plenty of empty space, one idea per poster.

The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.

Where should you hang an abstract poster?

  • Living room: a geometric composition in a large size, above the sofa.
  • Bedroom: terracotta or black and white tones, for a settled mood.
  • Office: a simple shape, which does not pull attention away from the work.
  • Entrance: a strong, colourful piece, which sets the tone from the threshold.
  • Dining room: a series of two or three identical sizes, aligned at the same level.

Tip: on a wall already loaded with materials, black and white abstraction asserts itself better than a very colourful version.

Abstract poster or abstract painting?

  • Abstract painting keeps the gesture: matter, impasto, the brush trace visible even in reproduction.
  • The abstract poster in the wider sense goes further: vector shapes, clean flat areas, compositions thought out on screen.
  • On a pale wall, an abstract painting in terracotta tones brings warmth without an identifiable figure.
  • On a wall that already has colour, a black and white geometric composition gives structure without adding a shade.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.

  • With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
