Posters Leipzig

Leipzig as seen by our artists: the central station, the old Spinnerei factories and the spire of St Thomas Church. Each poster is a personal reading of travel, hand-printed on 270 gsm semi-matte photo paper in our workshop in Fayence.

Choosing your Leipzig poster

Which Leipzig poster should you choose?

Leipzig comes in several recognisable registers, carried by its monuments and its history:

  • Vintage Leipzig poster: poster in the style of an old advertisement, typography and sepia tones.
  • Völkerschlachtdenkmal poster: the monument to the Battle of the Nations, massive and dark.
  • Augustusplatz or Gewandhaus poster: the square and its concert hall, monumental architecture.
  • Leipzig map poster: a stylised city plan, districts and streets named.
  • Nikolaikirche or Thomaskirche poster: the historic churches linked to Bach.
  • Leipzig skyline poster: an urban silhouette in a horizontal format, a restrained palette.

The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.

Where should you hang a Leipzig poster?

  • Living room: the skyline or a view of Augustusplatz, in a large size above the sofa.
  • Office: a map of Leipzig, understated, to place the city at a glance.
  • Entrance: a vintage poster, to set the tone from the doorstep.
  • Bedroom: a calmer view, Nikolaikirche or Thomaskirche, in soft tones.
  • Hallway: a series of several Leipzig monuments, in the same format.

Leipzig poster in colour or in black and white?

  • Colour renders the atmosphere of a precise place: the brick red of the Völkerschlachtdenkmal, the green of the parks around Augustusplatz.
  • Black and white brings out the lines of the architecture, monument or church, without the distraction of colour.
  • On a wall that is already coloured, black and white calms the room.
  • On a neutral wall, colour carries more of the city's identity.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, not on canvas or metal.

  • With frame: black, white, oak or walnut, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
