Choosing your minimalist poster

Which minimalist poster should you choose?

Minimalism comes in several registers, and they do not tell the same thing:

  • Minimalist black and white poster: pure contrast, no colour to distract.
  • Minimalist film poster: a scene reduced to its simplest shape, often untitled.
  • Untitled minimalist poster: the lettering disappears, only the image stays.
  • Pared-back geometric shapes: circles, lines, flat colour, nothing superfluous.
  • Minimalist anime or series poster: a character or a cult scene brought back to essentials.
  • Flat colours: two or three shades, never a complex gradation.

The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.

Where should you hang a minimalist poster?

  • Living room: a wide size in black and white, alone on a pale wall.
  • Office: a minimalist film poster, which does not overload the attention.
  • Bedroom: soft geometric shapes, far from vivid colours.
  • Hallway: a series of minimalist posters by the same artist, in a line.
  • Entrance: a single plain piece, which sets the tone without overdoing it.

Minimalist or pared back, what is the difference?

  • Minimalism strips down to essentials: one line, one shape, sometimes a single word.
  • The pared-back keeps more detail, but organises the space so it can breathe.
  • On a wall already loaded with furniture or colour, minimalism holds better: it adds almost nothing.
  • The size counts as much as the style: a minimalist 21x30 stays readable from afar, whereas a busy 70x100 asks you to step back.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.

  • With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
