Choosing your minimalist poster

Which minimalist poster should you choose?

The fewer the elements, the more each one counts:

  • Continuous line: a face, a body, a leaf, drawn without lifting the pencil.
  • Single block of colour: one shape, one colour, a bare ground.
  • Geometry: two or three figures, no more.
  • Black and white: the plainest form of the genre.
  • Beige on beige: minimum contrast, maximum texture.
  • Typography: one word, centred, wide margins.

The filters on the left narrow by dominant colour, style and mood.

Where to hang a minimalist poster?

  • Bedroom: the room where empty space shows most.
  • Office: nothing distracting, readable on video calls.
  • Hallway: three identical formats, evenly spaced.
  • Living room: above a low unit, on its own.
  • Bathroom: a simple line, away from splashes.

Tip: minimalism needs margin. Leave more bare wall around it than usual.

Which frame for minimalism?

  • White frame: disappears, leaves the poster alone.
  • Thin black frame: underlines without weighing down.
  • Pale oak frame: warms up a very spare print.
  • No frame: the sheet on its own, clipped, exactly right in this style.

Poster, print or wall picture: what is the difference?

Here the three words mean the same thing: an image you hang on the wall. We say print because we print on art paper, not on canvas or metal.

  • Framed: black, white, oak or walnut, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Unframed: the sheet alone, to slide into a frame you already own.
