The whale as seen by our artists: fins outstretched, a breath at the surface, deep blues and peaceful giants. Each poster is a personal reading of the animal, hand-printed on 270 g photo paper with a semi-matte finish in our studio in Fayence.

Choosing your whale poster

Which whale poster should you choose?

The whale comes in several registers, and they do not tell the same story:

  • Whale poster: the whole silhouette, diving or at the surface, in its blue.
  • Vintage whale poster: a naturalist engraving, an old zoological plate, sepia shades.
  • Baby whale poster: a calf beside its mother, a soft line, a tender scene.
  • Tail and fin: a tight frame on the fluke, against the light or a splash held still.
  • Minimalist whale: one shape, one flat colour, a lot of emptiness around it.
  • Ocean scene: whale and horizon, to give the subject breadth.

The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.

Where should you hang a whale poster?

  • Child's room: a baby whale poster, above the bed or the changing table.
  • Living room: a large restrained size, for a room that already breathes blue or nature.
  • Bathroom: the subject that falls most naturally, between water and calm.
  • Office: a vintage engraving, discreet beside the screen.
  • Hallway: a series of two or three whale tails, same framing, same size.

Tip: deep blues absorb the light of a small room. On a poorly lit wall, prefer a paler version or a cream ground.

Whale poster or vintage whale poster?

  • The contemporary version simplifies the shape: few details, one dominant colour, a graphic rendering.
  • The vintage version takes up the vocabulary of the naturalist engraving: fine lines, captions, faded shades.
  • On a wall already full of colour, the restraint of minimalism holds better than a detailed engraving.
  • In a neutral or pale-wood room, vintage naturally finds its place.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.

  • With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
