Choosing your line art poster
Which line art poster should you choose?
Line art gathers several ways of drawing in a single gesture, and they do not look alike:
- Line art poster: one continuous line, without lifting the pencil, sketching a form.
- One line art poster: a face or a body traced in a single unbroken stroke.
- Botanical line art: foliage, flowers, branches reduced to their outline.
- Abstract line art: free curves, with no recognisable subject.
- Line portrait: a face simplified to a few lines.
- Geometric line art: constructed shapes, clean angles, symmetry.
The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.
Where should you hang a line art poster?
- Bedroom: a line portrait or a one line art, above the bed.
- Living room: a series of abstract line art pieces, aligned in the same size.
- Office: a geometric line art, plain beside the screen.
- Bathroom: a botanical line art, light on a pale wall.
- Hallway: several one line art pieces from the same hand, in a row.
Tip: line art reads from afar as well as from close up; it holds equally well in a small size and in a large one.
One line art or classic line art?
- One line art traces a subject in a single continuous stroke, without lifting the pencil: the gesture stays visible, minimal.
- Classic line art multiplies the strokes to build a form, with more detail and nuance.
- One line art suits small sizes, where its simplicity stays readable.
- Classic line art holds better in a large size, where the detail has room to unfold.
- The two marry in a series: several one line art pieces side by side, or a classic line art alone as the centrepiece.
Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?
All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.
- With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
- Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
