Latin America as seen by our artists: warm colours, cities, beaches and rhythms of the continent. Each poster is a personal reading of travel, hand-printed on 270 gsm photo paper with a semi-matte finish in our workshop in Fayence.
Choosing your Latin America poster
Which Latin America poster should you choose?
The continent comes in several clearly distinct registers:
- Pre-Columbian art: Maya, Aztec or Inca motifs, carved stone, solar symbols.
- Papel picado and popular festivals: vivid colours, cut-out motifs, calaveras.
- Andean landscapes: the cordillera, llamas, terraced fields, high-altitude light.
- Tropical wildlife: parrots, jaguars, toucans, the Amazon forest.
- Colonial architecture: coloured facades, patios, the paved streets of Havana or Cartagena.
- Vintage travel poster: ocean liner advertising, old maps, retro lettering.
The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.
Where should you hang a Latin America poster?
- Living room: colonial architecture in a large size, to set the tone of the room.
- Bedroom: an Andean landscape in soft tones, calming on waking.
- Dining room: a papel picado motif, colourful without being aggressive.
- Office: a graphic pre-Columbian motif, restrained beside the screen.
- Hallway: a series of three posters on the same subject, animal or architecture.
Tip: the vivid colours of papel picado come out better on a pale wall, white or sand.
Colourful poster or restrained poster?
- The popular registers (festivals, papel picado, wildlife) carry frank colours, made for a wall that needs life.
- The architectural and pre-Columbian registers stay more restrained, with a tight palette of earth and stone.
- On a wall already crowded with furniture or objects, the restrained register is the better choice.
- On a bare wall both work, and the 50x70 or 70x100 gives each the room to speak.
Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?
All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.
- With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
- Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
