Choosing your vintage print
Which vintage poster should you choose?
Vintage covers several registers, and each has its favourite setting:
- Air France and airline poster: destinations, world maps, period lettering.
- Vintage advertising poster: old advertisements, products from another time, painted slogans.
- Vintage city poster: plans, monuments, enlarged postcards.
- Vintage kitchen poster: utensils, fruit, market scenes in the old manner.
- Vintage black and white poster: film photographs, portraits, street scenes.
- Vintage cinema poster: festival lettering, portraits of actors, period film posters.
The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.
Where should you hang a vintage poster?
- Living room: a travel poster or a vintage city, in a large size, above the sofa.
- Kitchen: a vintage kitchen poster or an old advertisement, near the table.
- Office: a vintage advertising poster, plain and graphic, beside the screen.
- Hallway: a series of Air France or city posters, in the same size, aligned.
- Bedroom: a vintage black and white, discreet, above the bed.
Tip: colourful vintage posters stand out better on a pale wall, while black and white goes with any wall colour.
Vintage poster or original period poster?
- The original period poster is a rare object, often fragile, and its price follows its rarity.
- The reissued vintage poster takes up the same image on 270 g photo paper with a semi-matte finish, ready to frame.
- Once on the wall the visual result is identical: what changes is the provenance, not the image.
- For coherent wall decoration across several rooms, the reissue lets you repeat one subject without hunting down several original pieces.
Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?
All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.
- With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
- Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
