Choosing your vintage print
Which vintage print to choose?
The word covers several families, and they do not belong in the same rooms:
- Vintage advertising poster: old advertisement, aperitif, grocery, period publicity.
- Travel poster: coastlines, resorts, airlines, railways.
- Vintage city print: maps, monuments, street scenes of the past.
- Vintage kitchen print: market, citrus, tableware, laid table.
- Vintage black and white print: old photography, line, typography.
- Retro sport: cycling, tennis, skiing, sailing.
- Vintage botanical, flowers and mountain: old plates, resorts, summits.
- Vintage wall decor: old seaside posters, spa resorts, antique maps.
- Vintage car poster: old automobiles, circuits, bodywork in the rain.

Where to hang a vintage poster?
- Living room: one large format above the sofa, alone on a pale wall.
- Kitchen: an old advertisement between two cupboards.
- Hallway and entrance: a series of three travel posters.
- Office: a graphic advertising print behind the screen.
- Bar or dining corner: period aperitifs and drinks.
Tip: vintage does not take competition well. One strong piece per wall.
What wall colour with a vintage print?
Old papers lean towards ochre, cream and brick red. They hold better on a neutral wall.
- White or cream wall: the closest to the original poster.
- Deep green or midnight blue wall: the cabinet of curiosities effect.
- Terracotta wall: only for very graphic prints, otherwise everything blurs together.
Poster, print or wall picture: what is the difference?
Here the three words mean the same thing: an image you hang on the wall. We say print because we print on art paper, not on canvas or metal.
- Framed: black, white, oak or walnut, assembled and ready to hang.
- Unframed: the sheet alone, to slide into a frame you already own.
