Posters art deco

Art deco as seen by our artists: straight lines, symmetry, gilding and 1920s geometry. An art deco poster structures a wall without crowding it. Every print is made to order in our Grasse workshop, on 220 gsm satin anti-glare art paper.

Choosing your art deco poster

Which art deco poster should you choose?

Where art nouveau curves, art deco straightens. Six families come back:

  • Radiating geometry: fans, suns, tiers, repeated arcs.
  • Strict symmetry: one axis, two halves, nothing out of line.
  • Gilding and black: the period contrast, the most recognisable.
  • Liners and travel: shipping-line posters, lighthouses, skyscrapers.
  • Stylised portraits: long silhouettes, gloves, cigarettes, sharp profiles.
  • Deep greens and terracotta: the 1925 palette, muted and warm.

The filters on the left narrow by dominant colour, style and mood.

Where to hang an art deco poster?

  • Hallway: this is where symmetry reads best, two identical formats.
  • Living room: one large gilded piece on a dark wall.
  • Dining room: art deco was born on laid tables.
  • Office: strict geometry, calm behind the screen.
  • Corridor: four panels, same gap, same frame.

Tip: art deco hangs straight and centred. A rough hanging shows ten times more than on a photograph.

Which frame for art deco?

  • Thin black frame: the truest pairing, it extends the line.
  • Gilt frame: the one family where it is not a pastiche.
  • Walnut frame: warm, it holds deep greens.
  • Wide mount: it gives the geometry the margin it asks for.

Poster, print or wall picture: what is the difference?

Here the three words mean the same thing: an image you hang on the wall. We say print because we print on art paper, not on canvas or metal.

  • Framed: black, white, oak or walnut, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Unframed: the sheet alone, to slide into a frame you already own.
