Choosing your Bordeaux poster

Which Bordeaux poster should you choose?

Bordeaux comes in several registers, and they do not tell the same city:

  • Bordeaux Place de la Bourse poster: the facade and the water mirror, in reflection.
  • Vintage Bordeaux poster: old advertisements, a railway feel, retro lettering.
  • Bordeaux map or city plan poster: the Garonne, the port crescent, the districts in line.
  • Black and white Bordeaux poster: quays, eighteenth-century facades, marked contrasts.
  • Bordeaux vineyard poster: rows of vines, châteaux, earth and leaf tones.
  • Contemporary Bordeaux poster: flat colour areas, graphic motifs, a present-day line.

The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.

Where should you hang a Bordeaux poster?

  • Living room: a wide view of the quays or the water mirror, alone above the sofa.
  • Dining room: a vineyard or a wine advertisement, beside the table.
  • Entrance: a map of Bordeaux, to place the city from the door.
  • Office: a black and white of facades, plain beside the screen.
  • Hallway: a series of three posters from the south-west, all the same size.

Tip: Bordeaux's pale stone turns grey under a cool light. Under a warm lamp it finds its gold again.

Bordeaux poster: period or contemporary?

  • The period reproduction keeps the original drawing and lettering, printed anew.
  • The contemporary version takes the same quays with today's line and palette.
  • On a classic wall, with mouldings and panelling, the period version agrees more naturally.
  • On a plain wall, the contemporary one holds alone without needing a setting around it.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.

  • With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
