Choosing your mountain print

Which mountain poster should you choose?

The mountain comes in several registers, and they do not tell the same thing:

  • Vintage mountain poster: pared-back strokes, a retro palette, the spirit of an old winter sports poster.
  • Pyrenees poster: ridges, cirques, the Canigou and the summits that carry a name.
  • Mont Blanc poster: the Alpine massif in its most recognisable version.
  • Black and white mountain poster: relief and light, without the colour that distracts.
  • Snowy mountain poster: white summits, a clear sky, a winter mood.
  • Large-format mountain landscape poster: a panorama that fills a whole stretch of wall.

The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.

Where should you hang a mountain poster?

  • Living room: a large size above the sofa, a summit or an Alpine panorama.
  • Bedroom: a settling black and white, never a busy scene near the bed.
  • Office: a Pyrenees or Alps poster, a discreet landmark facing the screen.
  • Entrance: the tone of a chalet, with a vintage mountain poster.
  • Hallway: a series of summits in a line, same size, same palette.

Alps or Pyrenees?

  • The Alps impose frank vertical lines, sharp relief, often Mont Blanc as a landmark.
  • The Pyrenees hold on gentler curves, cirques, a green that climbs higher up the slopes.
  • On a pale wall both stand out well; on a wall that is already mineral, prefer black and white, plainer.
  • The size counts as much as the range: a 50x70 for a single summit, a 70x100 or the 100x140 polyptych for a whole chain.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.

  • With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
