Posters amsterdam

Amsterdam as seen by our artists: the narrow canal facades, the bridges and the bicycles. Each poster is a personal reading of travel, hand-printed on 220 gsm art paper with an anti-glare satin finish in our workshop in Grasse.

Bien choisir votre affiche Amsterdam

Which Amsterdam poster should you choose?

Amsterdam comes in several registers, and they do not tell the same city:

  • Amsterdam canals poster: bridges, barges, narrow houses at the water's edge.
  • Gabled houses poster: spout, bell or step gables, lined up and leaning.
  • Bicycle in Amsterdam poster: the most asked-for scene, a bike leaning on a railing.
  • Amsterdam map or city plan poster: the canal belt, the districts traced in line.
  • Black and white Amsterdam poster: brick, water, low sky, contrasts without colour.
  • Vintage Amsterdam poster: old advertisements, a shipping-line feel, sepia tones.

The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.

Where should you hang an Amsterdam poster?

  • Living room: a canal view in a large size, alone above the sofa.
  • Office: a line drawing of facades, calm and legible beside the screen.
  • Entrance: a map of Amsterdam, to place the city from the door.
  • Hallway: a series of three Dutch cities, same size and same frame.
  • Bedroom: a settled view of the water, with no dense facade detail.

Tip: a canal view is horizontal. Set it above a low piece of furniture rather than between two tall ones, so the waterline can breathe.

Amsterdam poster: illustration or photograph?

  • Illustration simplifies: gable silhouettes, flat areas, a supple line, immediate reading.
  • Photography keeps the material: brick, reflections, shifting sky, dense detail.
  • At a small size, illustration stays legible where a photograph closes up.
  • On a large bare wall, photography gives depth and holds on its own.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on fine art paper, not on canvas or metal.

  • With frame: black, white, oak or walnut, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
