Posters japan
Japan as seen by our artists: woodblock echoes, indigo waves, ramen bowls and fine-line silhouettes. Each poster is a personal reading of the archipelago, hand-printed on 220 gsm art paper with an anti-glare satin finish in our workshop in Grasse.
Choosing the right poster
Japan is treated here in two registers that don't mix: the woodblock print, with its flat colour fields and offset framing, and contemporary minimalism, with a lot of empty space and few lines.
The recurring motifs are Mount Fuji, waves, cherry blossoms, torii gates and cranes. This is a section that pairs naturally with japandi, as long as you stay in the minimalist register rather than the colourful print.
The grain of the carved wood is part of the language of the woodblock print. Our 220 g/m² art paper renders it better than a smooth paper, which would flatten it.
