Posters modernism
Modernism as seen by our artists: the taut lines, the restrained flats and the ruler-straight compositions. Each poster is a personal reading of this graphic language, hand-printed on 220 gsm art paper with an anti-glare satin finish in our workshop in Grasse.
Choosing your Modernist poster
Which modernist poster should you choose?
Modernism brings together several movements born in the 20th century, and a modern art poster is chosen first by the movement it represents:
- Bauhaus style poster: flat colour blocks, geometric lines, forms reduced to the essential.
- Abstract modernist print: non-figurative compositions, bold colours, free forms.
- Modern abstract print with a cubist dominant: fragmented volumes, multiple planes, a contrasted palette.
- Modern art poster with constructivist influences: straight lines, primary flat colours, geometric rigour.
- Minimalist abstract art poster: simple forms, few colours, a pared-back spirit.
The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by movement and by style.
Where should you hang a modernist poster?
- Living room: a large geometric size above the sofa.
- Office: a sober Bauhaus style poster, next to the screen.
- Dining room: a modern abstract print whose colours echo the table.
- Entrance: a vertical size with clean lines, to set the tone from the threshold.
- Hallway: a series of two or three posters from the same movement, aligned.
Geometric modernist poster or organic abstract?
- The geometric side of modernism (Bauhaus, constructivism, De Stijl) relies on the straight line and flat colour, and suits a pared-back interior.
- Organic abstract, with free forms and irregular curves, brings movement to a wall that would otherwise be very straight.
- On furniture that is already angular, organic abstract balances the room.
- On a minimalist interior, the geometric side extends the rigour of the existing lines.
Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?
All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on fine art paper, not on canvas or metal.
- With frame: black, white, oak or walnut, assembled and ready to hang.
- Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
