Choosing your green poster

Which green poster should you choose?

Green covers very different registers, and each gives a mood of its own:

  • Sage green poster: a soft, powdery green that goes with almost anything.
  • Green nature poster: forests, clearings, undergrowth, moss and filtered light.
  • Green plant poster: monstera, fern, tropical foliage in a large size.
  • Green leaf poster: a single leaf, close up, on a plain ground.
  • Flat areas and abstract shapes: blocks of green, with no figurative motif.
  • Deep or bottle green: sustained tones, dressier than a light green.

The filters on the left narrow things down by shade, by style and by mood.

Where should you hang a green leaf or sage green poster?

  • Living room: a sage green in a large size, which never tires the eye.
  • Bedroom: a single green leaf, above the headboard.
  • Kitchen: a green plant or a foliage plate, near the table.
  • Office: a simple green flat, restful beside the screen.
  • Bathroom: deep green, which holds well on the wall of a small humid room.

Tip: sage green goes with pale wood and linen. Deep green asks for a more neutral wall so as not to saturate the room.

Green poster or botanical poster: what is the difference?

  • The botanical poster documents a precise plant, in the manner of an old plate.
  • The green poster chooses a colour first: the plant is only a pretext for the green.
  • On a wall that already has living green, a potted plant, prefer a flat area or a single leaf to a busy scene.
  • The 30x40 suits a single leaf, the 50x70 sets off dense foliage or a clearing.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.

  • With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
