Choosing your sport print

Which sport poster should you choose?

Sport comes in very different registers, and each has its following:

  • Football poster: stadiums, shirts, technical moves, match scenes.
  • Roland-Garros and tennis poster: the clay court, the serve, tournament atmosphere.
  • Formula 1 poster: single-seaters, pit lanes, corners, pure speed.
  • Rugby poster: scrums, pitches, team spirit, often in a vintage treatment.
  • Basketball and NBA poster: parquet, hoop, action in the air.
  • Golf, boxing, ski or cycling poster: the precise gesture of a more confidential sport, for a bedroom or an office that shows a passion.

The filters on the left narrow things down by dominant colour, by style and by mood.

Where should you hang a sport poster?

  • Bedroom: a football or basketball poster for a child's or teenager's room.
  • Living room: a Formula 1 or rugby poster in a large size, above the sofa.
  • Office: a tennis or golf poster, plainer, beside the screen.
  • Home gym or garage: a sports car or cycling poster, for the energy of the place.
  • Hallway: a series of three posters of the same sport, in the same size.

Tip: a sport practised as a family works better in shared rooms; a sport followed as a spectator finds its place in a bedroom or an office.

Vintage or contemporary sport poster?

  • Vintage replays the old competition posters: period lettering, faded colours, archive framing.
  • The contemporary catches a gesture or a silhouette in a more graphic style, often in flat colour.
  • On a wall already loaded with old furniture, vintage falls naturally into place.
  • On a neutral wall both styles work: what must stay readable at first glance is the sport itself.

Poster, print or picture: what is the difference?

All three words mean the same thing here: a printed image that you hang on the wall. We say poster because we print on photo paper, never on canvas. The same image is also available on a metal plate, in several sizes.

  • With frame: black, white or light oak, assembled and ready to hang.
  • Without frame: the sheet alone, to slide into the frame you already have.
